E.G. “Pete” Thompson passed away on June 2, 2019 at his home in Sandpoint, Idaho, at the age of 89.

The Vigil/Rosary service will be said at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday June 7, 2019, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Dennis C. Day officiating.

Pete was born on August 13, 1929, to Eddy and Ida Thompson. Raised in the farming community of Sheldon, North Dakota, he graduated from Sheldon High School in a class of 12.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Adell; his son, Rick; a grandson, Casey; and a granddaughter, Stephanie. His survivors are Scott Thomp-son (Kelly) Jim Thomp-son (Sandy), Paul Thomp-son (Nancy), Jack Thomp-son (Penny), Joel Thompson, Patrick Thompson, Gayle Cooper (Jim), and Darcy McDougall (Randy). His grandchildren are Jason Thompson, Travis Thompson, Corby Thompson, Ryan Thompson, Cole Thompson, Erin Birkhimer, Josh Thompson, Sean Purcell, Ian Purcell, Cory Purcell, Amy Clark, Alex Thomp-son, Jaclyn Green, Tyrel Thomp-son, Orrin Thomp-son, Tel Thomp-son, Jake Thompson, Saman-tha Thompson, Brissa Peterson and Brianna Williams. He also had 49 great-grandchildren.

Pete and his wife, Adell, ran successful newspaper businesses in Sandpoint, Priest River, Bonners Ferry and Post Falls, Idaho.

He was involved deeply in the Sandpoint, North Idaho community in both civic events and politically.

In 2018, Pete married Debra Dawson of Sandpoint. Debra has four children: Matt Meaux, Andrew Meaux, Kyle Meaux, and Jarrod Meaux, all of Sandpoint, Idaho.

Pete enjoyed the outdoor lifestyle, hunting, fishing and working on his property north of Sandpoint.

He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
