Ponderay hosting annual cleanup day

PONDERAY — The city of Ponderay is ready to tidy up the neighborhood with its annual Community Cleanup Day on Sunday.

“It gives an opportunity for our community to come out and give, to help those who are in need,” said Ponderay Mayor Steve Geiger.

Some of the things people help with is lawn mowing or taking garbage to the dump. Last year, volunteers helped build wheelchair access ramps among a variety of projects. Geiger said he will be out mowing the center medians along the highway again this year as well.

The cleanup is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, and anyone within the city of Ponderay who would like to volunteer or who needs assistance with various tasks must register in advance. Call Ponderay City Hall at 208-265-5468. Sandpoint Church of the Nazarene and Wildwood Grilling will host a barbecue as well at 12:45 p.m. at Triangle Park in Ponderay. The cleanup is supported by other businesses as well, including Pacific Steel, Waste Management and Bonner County.

“We get such great support from this community,” Geiger said.
