The branch will open in its new location on Monday, June 10.

PONDERAY — STCU will open its relocated Bonner County branch on Monday, June 10 in Ponderay, ready to serve members in a new building with more space and service options.

The building, 477123 Highway 95, sits just 300 feet from the branch STCU opened a decade ago in the Ponderay Crossing Shopping Center, at U.S. Highway 95 and Kootenai Cutoff Road.

But otherwise, it’s a whole new branch. At 4,100 square feet, the “mountain contemporary”-style building is twice the size of the old location. It has three drive-through lanes offering teller and ATM access, as well as a 24-hour walk-up ATM.

“As more people joined STCU, we outgrew our space,” said branch manager Stacey Darley, a fifth-generation Bonner County resident who has worked at the branch since it opened in 2009. “We are looking forward to stretching out and serving members in the new building ? and there’s room to grow.”

The credit union expects new personal and business memberships to keep pace as the region continues to expand. STCU had 73,000 members when the Bonner County branch opened. Now it has 192,000 members and five North Idaho branch locations, with a sixth slated to open this year in Rathdrum. About 15 of STCU members live in North Idaho.

The credit union also is preparing to welcome new Sandpoint-area members from Banner Bank. Pending regulatory approval, Banner and STCU have agreed that the credit union will provide a new home for clients of the bank’s closing Sandpoint branch. The credit union has offered jobs to the bank’s employees.

Construction on the new STCU Bonner County Branch started in midwinter. The branch was designed by ALSC Architects, with Meridian Construction serving as the contractor.

STCU is a not-for-profit, cooperative financial institution that offers a full slate of saving and borrowing options, including home loans and commercial lending and business services. Anyone who lives, works, worships, or goes to school in North Idaho or Washington can join. Founded by educators in 1934, the credit union provides free financial education and is a key partner in an annual finance fair for high school seniors in the Lake Pend Oreille School District.

STCU has 192,000 members, $3 billion in assets, and 23 branch locations in North Idaho and Eastern Washington.
