Bridge event to support Alzheimer's research

| June 14, 2019 1:00 AM

Whether you enjoy party bridge or duplicate bridge, Wednesday, June 19, will provide you with an opportunity to enjoy your game, make new friends and share good food — all while raising money for Alzheimer’s research.

Additionally items ranging from gift certificates for restaurants, spa sessions, local shops, hair care, items to take home such as flower baskets, paintings, baked delicacies plus lessons ranging from piano, pickle ball, paddleboard to, of course, bridge, will be silently bid on throughout the day. In the past bidding has been spirited and generous. Cash donations are, of course, accepted and encouraged for this worthwhile cause.

You get all of this for $6 per person per session while you raise money for Alzheimer’s research. Pre-register with Ginny Retford at 208-661-3789 or send an email to sandpointdbc@gmail.com. Either way, please give your name, telephone number and if you have one, your American Contract Bridge League number.

More than 35 million people worldwide suffer from Alzheimer’s not to mention the countless millions of caregivers. In its seventh year, this nationwide event organized by the ACBL has raised $4.7 million — $30,000 of that has been raised by the Sandpoint club over the past five years. The local club members are consistently among the top club contributors on what ACBL calls the “Longest Day of Bridge.”

Sessions will be held at the Ponderay Event Center (an ADA facility) just north of Sandpoint and will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A breakfast snack will be available before the morning session. Lunch will be provided before the afternoon session. Separate rooms are reserved for the duplicate bridge players and the party bridge players. Participants may play one or both sessions.

All community members are invited to play bridge and show the world that there is a fun game believed to be one of the activities that can help slow the onset of this disease.

For additional information, contact one of the club’s directors: Don Hanset 208-610-0620 or Ginny Retford 208-661-3789.
