Helen Lucille Davidson, 92

| June 15, 2019 1:00 AM

Helen Lucille Davidson passed away on June 5, 2019, at Life Care Center in Sandpoint, Idaho at the age of 92.

Memorial service information will be announced at a later date.

Helen was born in Stanford, Nebraska, to Russel and Minnie Rutherford on August 18, 1926.

In her earliest years Helen lived on the prairie of Eckley, Colorado. When she was a young girl, the family traveled to the high Rocky Mountains in Summit County, Colorado, a place Helen fondly recounted many a tale.

In 1944, upon graduation from high school, Helen moved to Denver, Colorado, where, during World War II, she worked at Fitz Simmons Army Hospital. She then moved to New Mexico working at another Army hospital, before returning to Denver and Fitz Simmons.

After moving back to the ranch, in Summit County, Helen met her husband Robert Davidson. In May 1947, she went by train to Centerville, Iowa, where she and Bob married. Just before the arrival of their first son in October, 1948 they returned to the mountains of Colorado.

In 1963, they loaded up the family, and moved to Sandpoint, Idaho. She loved Sandpoint and the surrounding area.

She specially loved the ability to grow huge gardens, both flower and vegetable. It was nothing for her to can a 1,000 or more jars of fruits and vegetables for the family’s winter food.

Beginning at age 12, Helen spent many years, teaching young children and teens about the Lord. She faithfully attended church until her health would no longer allow her to do so.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Minnie Rutherford; her husband of 66 years, Robert Davidson; her eldest son, Lane Davidson; brothers, Harold and Dean Rutherford; and sister, Mildred Rutherford.

She is survived by four children, son Blayne Davidson of Terrebonne, Oregon, and daughters, Sharon (Jim) Joyce of Ottis Orchards, Washington, Leslie (Jan) Gustafson of Spokane, Washington, and Marian Lindgren of Sandpoint. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Dusty (Dan) Stenkamp of Redmond, Oregon, Bo (Jessie) Davidson of Terrebonne, Oregon, Marcie (Eli) Hanson of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Steve Joyce of Spokane, Karyn (Corey) Kiehl of Ottis Orchards, Washington, Shane Gustafson, Adam (Alicia) Gustafson, all of Spokane, Shauna (Jeff) Kalinoski of Vacaville, California, Capt. Nick (Jenn) Gustafson of Ramstein AFB Germany, Michael (Jessica) Lindgren, Matthew (Lacey) Lindgren, and Benjamin (Tara) Lindgren, all of Sandpoint. Also surviving are 22 great-grandchildren with one on the way, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends, Alex and Erica Gray.

Our family wishes to thank the management and staff at Life Care Center in Sandpoint for their kind and compassionate care of our mother.
