June 18, 1969 — CHAMBER BOOTH MOVED

Sandpoint Chamber of commerce’s tourist information booth, which moved to No. Fifth Ave., next to Williams car wash, opened June 16. Patty Hayden and Beth Thompson, who run the booth, were trained to tell visitors all about the lake area.

OBSERVE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Meserve will observe their golden wedding anniversary Sunday with a reception in the United Methodist Church social hall. Hosts and hostesses will be their sons and wives, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Meserve, Sandpoint; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Meserve, Rosalia, Wash., and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Meserve, Jr., Seattle.

The Meserves married in Bonners Ferry June 24, 1919, moving to a Selle district farm the same year. Mr. Meserve retired from farming in 1956 and the couple moved to the Ponderay area. Mr. Meserve worked several years as a substitute mail carrier. Mrs. Meserve taught at Kootenai School prior to her retirement.

May 28 - Jim Cass, 724 Pine St., to construct a garage. Cost estimated at $1800.

May 21 - Strout Realty, 107 N. Fifth Ave., to construct an addition. Cost estimated at $1500.

May 15 - Gene Palmer, 620 Superior, to construct a residence. Cost estimate is $25,800.

June 18, 1919 — CITY BREVITIES

Changes to the jail at the city hall are making room for a police station. The cells, heretofore occupying the center of the room, were moved over against the east wall, and a solid brick wall is to be erected through the center of the room, partitioning off the cells and allowing room in the west half for the police office. Since the moving of the city clerk’s office to the ground floor and using another room for the ladies’ rest room, the police have been without a headquarters.

J. CLYDE FRY TO WEST POINT

J. Clyde Fry has been admitted to West Point without an entrance examination, his diploma as a graduate of the Sandpoint high school being sufficient credit for entrance, Sandpoint’s school thus being on West Point’s accredited list.

The son of old-time Sagle residents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry S. Fry, and a graduate in this year’s class, he was captain of the school’s volunteers.

NEWS FROM CLARKSFORK

Fay Carter, another Clarksfork boy, is home. He left France May 1, arriving home on the 31st.

The Ferguson Sheep company unloaded 4800 head of sheep here and after cutting them into two bands, started them for the summer range on the upper waters of Lightning and Trestle creeks.

Mrs. Mary Jeffers went to Sandpoint to visit her daughter, Mrs. I.W. Eddy, on Wednesday.
