SANDPOINT — A North Idaho man was arrested on Friday after crashing his vehicle during a high-speed pursuit with law enforcement following a break-in.

Shane Ryan Brown is charged with burglary and eluding law enforcement, both of which are felonies. Brown was scheduled to make an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate on Monday, although online records from the hearing were not immediately available on Monday.

Brown, 27, is accused of forcing his way into Marketplace Antiques through a back window and then smashing his way through a front door when he was discovered, according to a probable cause affidavit. Brown was seen running toward a Subaru with Boundary County license plates, which was located by Bonner County sheriff’s deputies who attempted to stop the vehicle.

Brown, the affidavit said, ended up crashing the vehicle and was arrested after a brief foot pursuit. A criminal complaint said the pursuit took place on U.S. Highway 95 and Bottle Bay Road.

Items of jewelry bearing Marketplace’s price tags were found in the vehicle, the affidavit said. Other items, including a pry bar, were found strewn about Marketplace’s parking lot.

Brown admitted committing the burglary, the affidavit said.

A preliminary hearing is set for June 26.
