SANDPOINT — A Sandpoint man was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly striking another man in the face with the butt of a sawed-off rifle.

Kaden Quinn Hitchcock is charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault and false imprisonment. He was scheduled to make an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Tuesday afternoon, although documents from the hearing were not immediately available.

Hitchcock, 20, was arrested after the alleged victim turned up bloodied at a neighbor’s home on Hickory Street shortly after 4 a.m. The alleged victim, who is in his late teens, said he was struck twice in the face with the butt stock outside his bedroom and then locked in the room, according to a Sandpoint Police probable cause affidavit. The alleged victim said he breached a window screen to escape the room.

Hitchcock appeared to briefly barricade himself in a residence in the 800 block of Hickory where the alleged battery took place, but eventually emerged and was detained, the affidavit said.

The alleged victim told officers he and Hitchcock were in the home alone at the time of the attack, but said he had confronted Hitchcock earlier in the evening on behalf of a young woman who had been in the home with them.

Hitchcock denied striking the alleged victim with the gun or his hands, but said the two had spent the evening roughhousing with one another, according to the affidavit. He also alleged that the victim struck him in the face.

Hitchcock’s breath-alcohol concentration was measured at 0.17 and 0.18, court documents said.

Investigators obtained a search warrant of the Hickory Street residence and discovered a sawed-off .22-caliber rifle with bloodstains on it in a Volkswagen parked in the garage. There was also a large amount of blood on the floor, on walls, on a bed, on countertops and the street, according to the affidavit.
