June 27, 1969 — JOB’S DAUGHTERS HERE

Sandpoint is filled to overflowing with pretty, cheerful and enthusiastic girls as the 38th Annual Grand Session of the Grand Guardian Council of Idaho, International Order of Job’s Daughters swings into high gear for a three-day program.

There are 960 teenage girls and their leaders from cities all over Idaho registered for the largest convention ever attempted here by any group.

Mrs. Edna Spealman will preside over the convention as Grand Guardian, Mrs. William Olson is general chairman of convention events and Mrs. Charles Pennington is co-chairman. Other chairmen are Mrs. Bud Davis, housing; Mrs. Ken Piatt, meals; Mrs. Leo Black, past grand guardian, and Mrs. Ed Eitzman, registrations.

The warmth of Sandpoint hospitality has solved the problem of where to house 450 girls who could not find lodging in motels and hotels, which are filled almost to capacity. The girls are being housed in private homes with some homes taking as many as 10 girls. Volunteer host families will provide sleeping quarters, some meals and transportation for the girls for three days.

June 27, 1919 — CITY BREVITIES

A fine soaking rain which started in last night is doing gardens and hay a world of good.

There is a movement on foot, originating with mothers of young people who bathe at the beach, to engage a life guard for service at the beach during the bathing season.

The “own your home movement” is growing in Sandpoint. Last week John Rognan bought the residence at 603 Cedar street. He will improve the place and make it his home. J.C. Fall has bought the house at 914 Pine. Both deals were made by the Realty Abstract & Title company.

PACK RIVER - SUNNYSIDE NEWS

Several from here attended Wednesday’s funeral in Sandpoint for Mrs. Richard (Susanna) Palmer, a resident of Sunnyside and Oden for a number of years. Mrs. Palmer’s passing is much regretted by all who knew her, as she was a woman of sterling character and much beloved by her host of friends.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Al Palmer, Thursday, a fine baby girl. (Ed. Note: The baby was Marian Palmer Ebbett, mayor of Sandpoint 1984-1988).
