WAYSIDE GROCERY HAS NEW OWNERS

The Wayside Grocery and Cabins at Ponderay changed hands Feb. 18. Beldon Linscott, 8-year owner of the business, sold the firm to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Musgrove of Mt. Vernon, Wash.

Musgrove, assisted by his wife, plans to run the store and remodel the cabins as time permits. He said he wanted to live in Sandpoint to get him and his family out of “the taxridden state of Washington.” They have four children ages six months, and six, eight and nine years.

KRAMER MOST PREFERRED SPEAKER

Sandpoint’s pride and joy in the world of athletics, Jerry Kramer, the great professional football guard for the Green Bay Packers and a recent best-selling author, has added yet another honor to his personal achievements.

The Sandpoint High and University of Idaho graduate has been named as the speaker most in demand for winter banquet dates by Keith Morris, who arranges such engagements for most big name sports figures. Other popular speakers include Joe Namath, Vince Lombardi, and former Olympic track star Jesse Owens.

March 3, 1919 — CITY BREVITIES

Only one case of flu was reported to Health Officer Wendle from Sandpoint this week.

Lightning accompanied the chinook storm this afternoon with a mixture of hail, snow and rain.

The Thomasen Bros. hardware store (Cedar at 2nd) has been ordered to remove its powder magazine from the flat where it has stood many years. Government policy holds that the powder is too near the N.P. track. The hardware company has had a hard time finding a spot meeting government rules and is still seeking a site.

RAISE LOCAL PASSENGER FARES

A new passenger tariff on the government controlled railroads will affect the G.N. and N.P. but not the S.I. road. The change enforces a 3 cents per mile fare, regardless of competing lines. Fares from Sandpoint to nearby towns will in most cases be raised by the 3 cents a mile charge. The fare to Ponderay, heretofore 5 cents, will now be 10 cents. The fare to Coeur d’Alene, which was formerly $2.27, will now be $2.85.

HIGH SCHOOL NOTES

The senior class of ‘19 presented to the school board a $50 Liberty bond for new gymnasium equipment. Part of the grade’s money will buy a clock to be installed in the lower Farmin school hall, which will be the district’s official timepiece.
