Robert Edward 'Jake' Jacobson, 82

Robert Edward “Jake” Jacobson, 82, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, in Sandpoint, Idaho. A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Ponderay Events Center.

Bob was born on September 3, 1936 in Sagle, Idaho, to Victor and Letha (Coleman) Jacobson and was raised on the Sagle ranch his grandfather homesteaded in 1908. He attended Sagle schools and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1955, where he excelled in both football and baseball. Bob received athletic scholarships to the University of Idaho and Idaho State University, but his college career was cut short because of a football injury and he couldn’t afford to continue without his scholarships. He then joined the United States Marine Corps and played catcher for the Marine Corps baseball team.

Bob returned home and married Caroline “Cook” Walker on September 1, 1961. Shortly after their marriage, Bob went to work for Boeing in Seattle, Washington; however, when Idaho’s hunting season rolled around again, he couldn’t fight the undeniable urge to return to the mountains of North Idaho. Bob and Cook lived, worked and raised their three children on the same Sagle ranch where he grew up.

Bob began his career as a heavy equipment operator for Hedlund Lumber Com-pany, which became Georgia Pacific and then Louis-iana Pacific, where he took his first retirement. Since lying around wasn’t in his blood, he then went to work for Randy Ross and Pumnea Construction running excavators. He later owned his own excavation business which he retired from in 2005, well at least from paid work.

He continued to do excavation work for family members, helping each of his children with their various homes. With the help of his sons and grandsons, he also continued to log and raise cattle until his death. Bob was an avid hunter and sports fan. Every fall you would find him in the mountains hunting his bear, elk and deer.

Every October, it was a known fact that he and Cook would be at elk camp, with the same buddies he had hunted with for years. They also loved their spring road trips and camping. Bob enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up and play sports. He was very proud of each of them. He loved his dogs and always had one by his side.

After Cook passed away, a new companion, Susie Halliday, entered his life with whom he enjoyed many adventures. Bob was a hardworking man, he loved to tell a good story and spent many evenings with friends and family.

He is survived by three children, Dana (Tab) Anderson of Sandpoint, Victor Jacobson of Sagle, and Bob Jacobson Jr. of Sagle; five grandchildren, Megan (Luke) Feist of Oxnard, California, Mallory Yates of Houston, Texas, Tanner, Walker and Hunter Jacobson of Sagle; and one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Feist. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his dogs, Dolly and Reba.

He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Cook Jacobson,;his parents, and brother Frank Jacobson.
