Joseph Eugene Bowman, 64

On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, Joseph Eugene Bowman, 64, loving husband and father of three, left this world and made his journey to heaven.

Joe, the youngest of five children, was born on April 8, 1954, in Burlington, Wisconsin, to Jim and Rita Bowman. Not long after his birth, Joe’s family moved to North Platte, Nebraska, where he and his siblings grew up enjoying countless adventures on the farm. They later moved to Boulder, Colorado, where Joe spent his adolescent years and met his first wife, Nancy. Joe and Nancy later moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1976. He often spoke fondly of this time, recalling how they packed their belongings in a 1963 Valiant and headed out to build a life and start their family.

Joe had a strong worth ethic and spent years diligently establishing his own business, Mountain Springs Janitorial, which continues to operate today. He was proud to be able to provide a stable and loving home for his three children, Marita, Caleb and Clayton.

Joe loved Sandpoint for the sense of community and recreational opportunities the area offers. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many days exploring the mountains and lakes of North Idaho. He had a passion for hunting trophy whitetail and other big game, which he shared with his sons, creating memories that will live on. Joe was also an accomplished beadworker, with two of his pieces being published by the Smith-sonian.

In 2005, Joe and Crystal were married at their home in Sagle. They put a lot of love into remodeling the property and spent hours meticulously working the flower beds and landscaping. Together they loved spending time with their “fur babies” and enjoying the freedom of the open road on their Harley Davidson. While they explored far and wide, the Bull River loop was always a favorite.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Rita Bowman; and his mother-in-law, Sunny Ann Winter. He is survived by his wife Crystal Bowman; his children, Marita and Buck Beier, Caleb and Lisa Bowman, and Clayton and Kelsey Bowman; his three grandchildren; his siblings, Mike Bowman, Tim Bowman, Kathy Reed and Dianne Ressler; and his stepchildren, Loren Smith and Penny Smith. Our father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend will be loved and remembered always.

A celebration of life will be held for family and friends later this spring or summer.
