Top Dog Wrestling kicks off season

Sandpoint Top Dog Wrestling club kicked off its season wih the West Valley Tournament on March 9, then followed it up with a strong showing at the Mead Tournament on March 16.

Two Top Dog wrestlers took first and seven more placed in the top three of their weight classes at the West Valley Tournament, which was held in Spokane on March 9.

The West Valley Tournament was the club team’s first competition since the completion Sandpoint High School’s season.

Darrian Resso and Jacob Neff placed first; Shane Sherrill, Calvin Hinds, Paden Hinds, Isabella Stark and Timmy Stark placed second; and Drew Knowles and Jordan Tyler placed third.

The club team, which is coached by the same staff from Sandpoint High School’s team, also sent 17 wrestlers to the Mead Invitational on March 16.

A dozen wrestlers placed, and six of them placed first in their respective divisions.

Darrian Resso, Shane Sherrill, Jorden Tyler, Colton Dickinson, Timmy Stark and Tyssen Case placed first.

Payton Fisher, Dominic Ratigan and Austin Smith placed second.

Lastly, Jacob Neff and Paden Hinds placed third.

Top Dog’s next tournament will be held at Mt. Spokane High School on Saturday, March 23.
