LEWISTON — The Sandpoint track and field team made the three hour trip down to Lewiston on Friday to take part in the Sweeney Invitational.

A number of Bulldogs saw significant time drops and head coach Matt Brass continued to be impressed with the progress the squad is making.

"It was a really good day," he said. "... It was a good competition opportunity that a lot of people really shined in."

The boys placed second and the girls grabbed seventh out of 11 teams. Post Falls swept the team titles.

District foes Lakeland and Moscow also competed in the meet. Lakeland was fourth in boys and sixth in girls and the Bears were fifth in girls and seventh in boys.

This was the first time Sandpoint saw Moscow at a event this spring and Brass said he thought the Bulldogs stacked up well against them.

Sandpoint didn't bring a full squad to the meet and didn't go all-in on some of the events to rest some legs after Tuesday's home meet.

The Bulldogs ran the spring medley relay for the first time this season and the boys took home first in the event. Keyan Strock, Peyton Ennis, Ben Ricks and Jett Lucas were on the relay.

Ricks also smashed his personal record in the 400 to capture first in the event and ran the first leg on the first-place 4x400 relay team. Rusty Lee, Braden Kappen and Ennis ran the other legs. The time of 3:29.6 was just about two seconds off the school record and is currently second best in 4A.

Lee continued to steal the show in the 110 hurdles with a new PR (15.67) to secure first and he earned third in the high jump. Stone Lee was fourth in the event.

Kappen showed no signs of slowing down, winning the 100 and 200 with PRs and anchoring the second-place 4x100 relay.

Lucas was third in the 800 and Nikolai Braedt was second in the 3200. Both ran PRs. Luke McCorkle claimed fourth in the long jump and triple jump, and Will Hurst was fourth in the shot put.

On the girls side, Taylor Petz took home first in the pole vault, fourth in the long jump and fifth in the 100 hurdles.

Megan Oulman and Ara Clark finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 1600. They both recorded PRs.

In the 400, Jillian Primgaard captured fourth and Grace Rookey was fifth. Kayla Remsen posted fifth in the shot put.

Sandpoint heads to the Christina Finney Co-ed Relays next Friday.
