COEUR d'ALENE — The Sandpoint golfers sharpened their games this Saturday and Sunday while practicing at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Washington, and the Bulldogs saw the fruits of their labor Monday at the Lake City Invitational.

Camille Neuder shot an 87, three strokes off her personal best, to earn medalist honors and lead the girls to first at the event, while the boys secured fourth out of the seven teams that competed at the Coeur d'Alene Golf Club.

It was Sandpoint's first tournament this spring where the elements didn't play a factor and the weather was ideal, head coach Mike Deprez said.

For the most part, the Bulldogs took advantage of the conditions and continued to trend in the right direction as they head into the most crucial part of the season.

"I think one of the things that I got from this past weekend and today is there is a lot of hunger out there and there's a lot of adrenaline going into getting better," Deprez said.

Neuder, who played at the No. 3 spot for SHS, certainly did just that by posting her lowest individual round at a tournament this spring. Deprez said Neuder was steady all day long and avoided any big numbers.

"She did great today," he said. "She played intelligent golf out there."

CeCe Deprez earned second with an 88 and Hattie Larson carded a 94 to place fourth individually. Annaby Kanning recorded a 105 and Audrey Sheffler had a 113.

Deprez said the girls are starting to round into form.

"I think we need to shave off about another 20 strokes and that will get us into a position where we would be able to stand side-by-side with the teams that are contending for state," he said, "which is hopefully something we can do within the next three weeks."

Dawson Owens had the lowest round for the boys, carding a personal best 82. Harley Wilks shot an 85, Darren Bailey and Connor Bird each posted a 95 and Jake Samuels stepped up for SHS and tallied an 88.

The Sandpoint boys (350) were able to edge out their district rivals, Moscow (369) and Lakeland (385).

The Hawks were missing some of their golfers, but Deprez is happy with where the boys are sitting for this point in the season.

"The boys did a good job of handling Lakeland and Moscow," he said.

Next up for the Bulldogs is the Coeur d'Alene Invitational at 9 a.m. Friday. The boys will play at Avondale Golf Club, while the girls will compete at Hayden Lake Country Club.
