BTAA to host $10 microchip clinic Saturday

The Better Together Animal Alliance will hold a vaccine clinic for cats and dogs this Saturday (today) from noon to 3 p.m. at BTAA’s animal care center at 870 Kootenai Cutoff Road.

Microchips are $10, said Development Director Paige McGowan. No appointment is necessary.

“We’ve done them before,” she said “It’s just a little promotion, and it’s to celebrate national pet identification week.”

Microchips help BTAA, other shelters and veterinary clinics easily reunite animals with their owners, McGowan said.

“Microchips allow us or any vet to scan a pet and immediately know who owns it,” she said. “Some reunification happen within minutes.”

At BTAA, the reunification of dogs with their owners is roughly 85%, she said, and nationally recognized for its high rate.

BTAA staff have also been working to increase their feline-related services, which includes microchipping.

BTAA’s cat reunification rate is 3%, close to the same as the national average of around 2%.

“We want to really invest in getting cats that come to us microchipped,” McGowan said.
