Trestle Creek Complex fire activity likely to increase after weekend

| August 8, 2021 1:00 AM

HOPE — Crews expect minimal spread from the Trestle Creek Complex fire near Hope over the next 12-24 hours due to higher humidity and cooler temperatures, according to a press release.

However, the area is expected to see a drying trend following the weekend which will result in an increase in fire behavior and growth through torching and spotting, according to the Nevada Type 3 Incident Management Team 3 overseeing the fire.

"The crews are going to a direct/indirect strategy with point protection areas where they will focus on confining and containing the fire," the release stated. "The primary areas of focus will be in lower Trestle Creek and to the west of Trestle Ridge."

Crews are working to protect residences and private lands in Trestle Creek by deploying pumps, hoses and sprinklers to key areas. They are also considering opening old road beds to prevent the fire from moving down the lower Trestle Creek Canyon.

On the west side of Trestle Ridge, the fire is moving toward private lands with some residences in Flume Creek less than a mile away. Crews plan on using old road beds and plantations as an indirect line to prevent the fire from moving further west.

The fire has burned 3,586 acres and is 0% percent contained. All the fires in the Trestle Creek Complex, except for Trestle 6, were contained prior to a windstorm last weekend that wiped out any previous containment.

The Forest Service has issued a closure order for the entire Trestle Creek Complex area. Trestle Creek Road is closed at Highway 200 and Lightning Creek Road remains closed north of Clark Fork. The closure order prohibits non-fire personnel from being on the roads or in the area. Residents are asked to not go past any closure barriers.

Residents throughout Trestle Creek, Trout Creek and Flume Creek remain in "ready" evacuation status.
