Back to business: SHS cross country holds mile trial

SANDPOINT — A day after their first practice of the fall, the Sandpoint cross country team hit the track on Tuesday for their mile trial.
The mile trial test the athletes' fitness level and is a nice way to ease the squad into the new season.
The Bulldogs had 29 runners — 19 boys and 10 girls — complete the four laps around the track.
Senior Ben Ricks was the first to cross the finish line for the boys. He pulled away on the final lap to post a 4:40.6. Senior captain Trey Clark was right behind him with a 4:49.5. Sophomore Nathan Roche was third with a 4:51.1 and junior captain Slate Fragoso and senior Caleb Roche rounded out the top five for the boys.
On the girls side, defending regional champion Mackenzie Suhy-Gregoire led the way with a 5:24.3. Junior captain Ara Clark was second over the line with a 5:33.0 and sophomore Grace Rookey took third with a 5:45.7. Payton Betz and Jillian Primgaard rounded the top five.
Overall, 12 boys and all 10 girls recorded personal bests in the mile.
