SANDPOINT — Sandpoint boys soccer outplayed, out-possessed and out-hustled Moscow at War Memorial Field on Tuesday, coasting to a 4-0 Inland Empire League victory.

Just like Saturday’s game at Lewiston, the Bulldogs dominated possession. The ball was rarely in the Sandpoint end and when it was — it wasn’t there for long.

It was an offensive onslaught by the Bulldogs and they never let up.

Assistant coach Daniel Anderson said they push the boys hard in practice, so they can put on offensive clinics like this.

"There's a reason we do all the fitness we do, it's to be able to keep the high press and the high intensity for a whole match — that's Bulldog soccer," he said. "It has been since Tanner [French] and I were in high school, and that's something we really want this team to do."

Outside of the first 15 minutes, Anderson said the Bulldogs were firing on all cylinders the entire match. They took it to the Bears, outshooting them 27-6, and everyone on the bench saw playing time.

"We've been harping on the boys the last few weeks that we need some good team victories and this was just that," he said.

Senior captain Nolan Angell led the way for the Bulldogs with two goals and an assist. Anderson said all of Angell's dedication in the offseason is paying off.

"Nolan was certainly our man of the match," he said. "He's really just put in the work to get himself to be able to put in performances like this. It didn't happen by chance."

Angell opened the scoring in the 21st minute. A ball heading out for a corner kick was saved from going out of bounds on the left side of the goal by Angell. He then drove toward the net and slipped a shot past the Moscow keeper to make it 1-0.

The next goal by the Bulldogs was a perfectly-executed set piece. In the 32nd minute, Randy Lane sent a ball into the box on a corner and defender Evan Dickinson rose up to blast a header into the net.

Sandpoint tallied its third goal in the dying seconds of the first half on another set piece. Lane stepped up to take a free kick a few yards outside the penalty kick, but instead of trying to shoot it, passed it off to Angell and he did the rest to give SHS a 3-0 advantage at the break.

Senior Shane Griffin scored the final goal for the Bulldogs in the 53rd minute on an nice assist from Angell.

Junior Roman Jiles made three saves in net. This was Sandpoint's second straight shutout win.
