Climate change supported by science, facts

| December 2, 2021 1:00 AM

I agree with Monte Heil (Daily Bee, Nov. 16, 2021) “it is not a fallacy to ask for a reasonable amount of evidence” to explain why climate scientists have overwhelmingly concluded that anthropogenic warming poses a threat to the Earth's ecosystems. However, it is a fallacy (slothful induction) to ignore pertinent evidence that supports that consensus. Worse yet, Mr. Heil falsely claims the evidence doesn't even exist.

Assuming he honestly seeks relevant evidence, he should search for “Climate Change 2021, The Physical Science Basis, Summary for Policy Makers.” This is one section of the recently published sixth IPPC report which discusses the most recent findings related to climate change. The complete report was written by a consortium of the world's leading climate experts, consists of 4,000 pages, and is the work of 230 authors from 66 countries who reviewed 14,000 climate studies. See also “NASA measures direct evidence humans are causing climate change.”

Scientific facts that are supported by an abundance of verifiable evidence, such as the Earth revolving around the sun and anthropogenic warming should be reasonably accepted as being true. But that does not mean such facts are absolutely proven by science. Science is provisional in the sense that, if new evidence ever contradicts an established fact, no matter how unlikely that might be, it will make the appropriate corrections.

I also agree with Mr. Heil that we should “stop listening to those purveyors of junk science and outright lies.” Consequently, we should stop listening to him.
