Wampus Cats drop season opener at Bonners Ferry

BONNERS FERRY — Clark Fork boys basketball was unable to keep up with Bonners Ferry in a 68-38 season-opening loss to the Badgers on Thursday night.

Head coach Heath Beason said the defeat was a good learning experience for his team and he was proud of the effort they put forth in all four quarters.

"I think this was a good stepping stone for us," he said. "Bonners Ferry played very hard and deserved to win. We have to correct a few things and make some minor changes and I think we'll be OK."

The Wampus Cats couldn't recover from a slow first quarter, which saw them score just 4 points.

Beason said he was pleased with the way his team came out in the second half, but they have to be more consistent throughout the entire game.

"We need to play four quarters to be a successful basketball program," he said.

Senior Carter Sanroman scored a team-high 26 points. He also had three assists and three rebounds.

Senior Cole Reuter scored 6 points and senior Sam Barnett tallied 5 points and three rebounds. Sophomore Chase Sanroman had 2 points, junior Antonio Mayorga finished with a team-high seven rebounds and junior Nathan Shelton grabbed five rebounds.

Beason said the Wampus Cats need to do a better job closing out on shots from behind the 3-point line.

Clark Fork (0-1) heads to Genesis Prep at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
