Lady Cats drop third game in as many days

| December 3, 2021 8:55 PM

POST FALLS — Finally, the Lady Cats get a breather.

A 36-23 loss at Genesis Prep on Friday night was the final hurdle in a brutal start to the season for the Clark Fork girls basketball team. This was the Lady Cats' third game in as many nights to open their 2021-22 campaign and head coach Jordan Adams said fatigue definitely hit her team in Friday's matchup with the Jaguars.

"They were exhausted," she said.

Despite that, Clark Fork outscored Genesis Prep in the first and third quarters. Unfortunately, the other two quarters were their downfall.

"The second and fourth quarters, they just ran away offensively," Adams said.

Tired legs hampered the Lady Cats all night, but Adams still saw a lot of hustle from her guards, particularly junior Paige Valliere, sophomore Eloise Shelton and freshman Hannah Thompson.

Adams said the Jaguars played man and her team's inexperience against the defense continued to show.

"We ran into man the last three nights, which we've played against man in the past," she said, "but I think that only two or three of our key players have played against man, and you can't play against a strong man team with only half of them being seasoned enough to take it in because that's a lot of pressure when you have the ball."

Sophomore Lilly Reuter led the team in points for the third straight game with 8. She also had four steals and four rebounds.

Senior Katelyn Matteson tallied 7 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, Shelton finished with 6 points, six steals and four rebounds, and Valliere added 2 points and three steals.

The Lady Cats (0-3) will get a much needed break next week and return to action on Monday, Dec. 13 when they head to the Lake City junior varsity team at 5:30 p.m.

Adams said the Lady Cats need to work on being more effective offensively against a man defense and she hopes to add a man defense to her own team's arsenal soon.

"It would be nice if we could throw it in just to switch up our defense occasionally," she said.
