EAST HOPE — With Christmas shopping in full swing, those looking to add a home-made touch to their gifts can find it close to home.

The Hope Marketplace Art Co-Op is happening every Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., with 28 local artists taking part in this year’s co-op.

“We have an ocean of creativity to purvey,” said Kally Thurman, one of the co-op coordinators. “Having the walls filled with art again is a rewarding experience.”

The co-op spotlights works made by local artists and craftsmen who use a wide variety of materials. Wood, glass, metal, and fiber works can be found along with traditional mediums including paintings and photography. Jewelry, clothing, hand-crafted tables, and other goods can be found at the market.

“I feel more inspired, more creative,” said coordinator Andrea Evans. “My talent is putting it together.”

Located at 620 Wellington Place in East Hope, the co-op will be open every day from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. the week before Christmas.

“This building holds a lot of history,” Thurman said, “I’m doing my best to keep it as a heart in the community of Hope.”

“We hope to continue the pop up model to serve this population a few times a year,” Thurman said.

“This whole idea was spawned from too much time in isolation,” Evans said, “We’re hoping it’s a healing place.”

Evans went on to explain that a couple different arts emerged from the pandemic because they had more time to dedicate to improving their art or craft.

“It’s been a great experience,” Evan’s said, “We hope it continues in some way shape or form. It’ll be exciting to see how it goes.”
