Dec. 12, 1971 – PROUDLY WE SALUTE…

Steven C. LaMarche, who is spending a 17-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milan LaMarche, Sagle, was recently promoted to the rank of seaman at Bremerton Naval Hospital at Bremerton, Wash.

PV2 Thomas Carlson returned to Ft. Sam Houston, Tex., after a three-week leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Carlson, Sandpoint. A 1971 SHS graduate who entered the Army in June, Pvt. Carlson is serving with the Army’s First Medical Unit.

Army Pvt. Roland C. Buck Jr., whose parents live at 1328 Main, Sandpoint, recently arrived at Ft. Lewis, Wash., to begin eight weeks of basic training at the U.S. Army Infantry Training Center.

MRS. AHNER NAMED PRESIDENT

Mrs. Mamie Benda of Ponderay was hostess to Ponderay Birthday Club for an afternoon meeting and dessert luncheon. New officers elected were Sharon Ahner, president; Mamie Benda, vice president; Pat Davis, secretary; and Nona Evans, treasurer. On Dec. 29, a belated Christmas dinner and gift exchange will be held in the home of Alice Stockman in Kootenai.

DEL DRAPEAU OPERATES IGA BAKERY

Sandpoint IGA Supermarket again has an in-store bakery. The new baker is Del Drapeau, a young man with talent and imagination from Southern Idaho, by way of Coeur d’Alene. Drapeau has organized the IGA bakery department from scratch, as there had not been a bakery there since the previous store burned.

Dec. 12, 1921 – SOCIETY

The Ladies’ Aid society of the Methodist church met Wednesday at the home of Mrs. L.D. Farmin.

The food and fancywork sale given by the Catholic Ladies’ club at Thomason Bros. hardware store Saturday was an excellent success, netting $305.70. The ladies thank the public for its generous patronage.

The tea and sale given by the ladies of St. Agnes’ Episcopal guild at Guild hall Saturday was a splendid success and a large number of people were served. Net receipts added over $200 to the Guild treasury.

GREENHOOD MAKES CHANGE

Otto Greenhood, owner of the Majestic Bottling Works and Glacier Candy company, sold a large part of his interests to W.A. Nieman, James B. Benedict and Elmer Marston, who have consolidated the business under the trade name of Majestic Bottling Works. They will retain the Glacier trade mark for the candies. Mr. Nieman, who has been ranching at Sagle for two years, formerly conducted the Royal Sweet Shop here and is well known as a confectioner. Mr. Benedict has been an accountant at the Majestic and Mr. Marston has been employed there as candymaker.

NEWS FROM KOOTENAI

The proceeds of the pie social given by the Boy Scouts last Friday evening amounted to $14.00. The film, “Arnold the Hero and Traitor,” was an accurate reproduction of the famous historic incidents of his life.
