There's no place like home for the holidays — or for that matter, spending those said moments with your loved ones.

Now, a study of more than 2,000 Americans that was conducted by OnePoll for Minted backs up that thought, according to a story on the Good News Network website.

According to that study, 70 percent of those surveyed said they were more excited to give gifts than they were to receive them. They also told survey takers that they were looking forward to giving more gifts this year and adding more names to their shopping lists.

From sending cards to trying new traditions or keeping up with ones passed down from the generations before, those surveyed said time with family and making memories during the holidays are part of what makes Christmas such a special time.

Watching holiday movies, decorating the Christmas trees and making cookies and family holiday meals are other activities which make the holiday special.

“With a focus on quality family time and giving gifts rather than receiving, this year’s holiday season is shaping up to become a joyful return to the beloved values and traditions of years past, ” Minted spokesperson is quoted as saying in the GNN article.

The survey also found that care packages are making a return, sentimental gifts such as a custom-framed picture or ornaments edged out shiny tech toys, and that a handwritten note in holiday cards are appreciated.

But if you were to survey residents in Bonner County what makes the holiday special, it's hard to imagine that anything would top the Sandpoint Lions' Toys for Tots drive. It embodies all that makes the holiday special — love, kindness, community and joy. Each children is considered and, thanks to a dedicated community of "elves" who dig deep to donate to the Christmas drive.

To date, the annual Christmas drive has raised $71,967.46 — well ahead of the Sandpoint Lion's annual goal of $50,000 for the Toys for Tots campaign. The money you donate will help the Lions help even more children and help them take of bargains and specials thanks to generous local businesses.

As last year, the application form includes information for parents to detail a wish list for each of their children as well as their favorite color and TV show or movie. This allows the Lions to fulfill as many wishes as they can.
