Cougar sighted near PRE
On Dec. 19, a cougar — the four-legged kind, not a Palouse prowler — was seen lurking near the top of Fourth Street hill, not far from Priest River Elementary School. The cougar — nicknamed Santa — even though it sported a different kind of claws, quickly squirted back into the nearby brush and, as of Friday, not seen again.

Teacher believes in Santa Claus
Mrs. Berniece Mebust, who teaches the Coolin youngsters, has proof there is a Santa Claus. After the Christmas program for the town folks, she was presented with a sugar bowl as a community gift. “It's a token of appreciation of the fine work you are doing for our children,” declared Mrs. Ivan Emley, who made the presentation. The sugar bowl contained $135.25. Mrs. Mebust was so overcome she had to sit down.

Members of the Priest River Fire Department would like to see the return of the rope stolen off the fire engine recently. Among the rope’s purposes is to assist get getting someone from a burning building. Someone in Priest River has no conscience.

Record crowd attends
The Community Christmas tree program in the Congregational church was attended by undoubtedly the biggest crowd ever assembled in the edifice. Over 600 were in the church, with many outside unable to gain admission.

Well-advertised baby
The January number of the Ladies Home Journal carries a half-page ad of Borden’s Eagle Milk illustrated by pictures of Jackson Beard, the little son of Mr. And Mrs. Art Beard of the Kaniksu Mercantile Co. The advertisers sent Jackson a $50 Victory bond for a Christmas present.
