POST FALLS — Sandpoint boys basketball couldn’t keep up with Post Falls in an Inland Empire League matchup on Tuesday night. The Trojans coasted to a 71-49 win and handed the Bulldogs their fourth straight loss.

Interim head coach Mike Roos said his team couldn’t buy a bucket all night.

“We just didn’t match their intensity,” he said after the game. “We came out and I think our nerves just got us in the first and second quarter. We just missed a lot of shots that we normally make.”

Post Falls led 38-22 at the half and never looked back. Despite the loss, Roos said his team never gave up.

“The kids are fighting hard, I got to give them that,” he said, “but we just need to do a better job of distributing the ball and getting more of our guys involved.”

Arie VanDenBerg led the team with 13 points.

“It was nice to see him hit some shots on the road,” Roos said about VanDenBerg.

Darren Bailey scored 11 points and Colin Roos and Randy Lane each tallied six.

Sandpoint (4-10, 0-8 IEL) heads to Coeur d’Alene at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Bulldogs fell 63-51 to the Vikings at Les Rogers Court on Jan. 21.

Roos said his team has a great chance at getting revenge against the Vikings.

“I always feel good going into all these games because if these boys put together a game, I know they can play at a high level,” he said. “It’s just the night we’re going to put that game together and go for it.”
