PONDERAY — Evans Brothers’ third annual fundraiser benefiting Panhandle Animal Shelter was a huge success, raising $2,400 for the local animal shelter.

The event is held in honor of Erik Bruhjell, a 22-year-old Sandpoint resident who passed away in July 2018. The funds raised came from a portion of sales Dec. 26-27 at the Sandpoint cafe as well as the roastery's online shop. In addition, all of the proceeds from the sale of a special coffee blend named in Bruhjell’s honor benefit PAS.

Bruhjell is deeply missed and remembered as a wonderful human being who loved people, animals, and the environment, PAS officials said. Bruhjell loved coffee and Evans Brothers, where he was a regular customer. Since his passing, this event has raised thousands of dollars for PAS, which are used to fund community-based programs like the shelter’s helpline, spay and neuter fund, and medical help for sick or injured animals.

Because Bruhjell would have turned 24 this year, the goal was to raise $2,400. However, those who still wish to donate in his honor can go online to the animal shelter website and click “donate.”
