Bonner County weathers winter storm

SANDPOINT — There was a rash of slide-off and minor vehicle crashes following last week's winter storm, but no major calamities.

"North Idaho residents were prepared for the storm," said Bob Howard, director of emergency management for Bonner County.

There were no reports of roof damage or other problems caused by the blankets of snow that fell on the area.

Howard said the most recent weather forecast is calling for warmer temperatures, in addition to rain.

"We could potentially have some minor flooding issues," said Howard.

The National Weather Service in Spokane is forecasting for additional snow and rain through the seven-day forecast for Sandpoint. Temperatures could near 40 degrees by the start of next week.

Howard is recommending homeowners keep their roofs clear of snow and to make sure vents are not blocked. If the forecast for rain holds, Howard said it has the potential to cause problems at homes where roofs haven't been cleared of snow.

"That weight increases drastically," Howard said.
