Sandpoint golf team seeks place to practice indoors

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint High School golf team is seeking the public's help in finding a place they can practice indoors in preparation for the upcoming spring season.

Head coach Mike Deprez said he has exhausted all efforts, including the airport and fairgrounds, and the need is urgent.

"I've tried all of the usual suspects and characters ... but nobody's biting," he said.

The team has struggled to find a permanent place to practice indoors when the weather in North Idaho is still too cold for local golf courses to open.

Last year, the team practiced in a building near Litehouse Inc. in Kootenai, but that facility is no longer available.

Deprez said the team could practice inside the high school, but the set up and take down of their nets would take hours of valuable practice time away each day.

"Logistically, it's impossible to set them and take them down and give the utility to other sports as well," Deprez said.

Some people have suggested using someone's garage, but Deprez said that won't work due to the limited space and safety concerns.

Deprez said he is looking for a space that is about 1,500 square feet. The team only needs to use the space for the month of March and would practice in the afternoon on weekdays.

All liability issues for the space will be covered by the Lake Pend Oreille School District, Deprez said.

If you have a facility available that the team can use or know someone that does, please contact Mike Deprez at 208-946-6399.
