KRFY says thank you, goodbye to student broadcaster

KRFY Community Radio officials recently said “thank you and goodbye” to high school broadcaster Connor Bird.

KRFY is very appreciative to new Sandpoint High School graduate Connor Bird for bringing the voice of the high school alive on the air, station officials said. Every week, Bird provided a one-hour podcast, CP@3 (Cedar Post @ 3 p.m.), that included interviews, news, reminders, and always great music.

“We have heard from many of the stations listener, how much they appreciate hearing from the students and the great music mix,” said station manager, Suzy Prez.

Producing a one-hour show each and every week is a big commitment, and became an even greater challenge once the pandemic changed the school day schedule. KRFY station officials said they wanted to recognize and thank Connor for his dedication and resolve to bring the “voice” of the high school alive on the 88.5 KRFY airwaves all while being at the top of his graduating class.

“Getting the voice of the student on to the airwaves of our community radio station was important to us here at KRFY,” Prez said.

Through the efforts of journalism teacher Will Love and senior (at the time), Ryan stepping up in 2018, Prez said the station was able to facilitate this important voice on the air. Ryan held the show for one year and Connor took over in his junior year, for a two-year stent, with CP@3.

As Bird moves on, Prez said station officials hope the momentum generated by the last three years of student broadcasts will encourage some new students to step forward and have some fun on the air.
