Class explores early summer birding, wildflowers

| June 20, 2021 1:00 AM

Early summer birding and wildflowers will be featured at an upcoming education program.

Sponsored by The Lodge at McGregor Lake, 12250 U.S. 2 West near Marion, Montana, the event will take place Saturday, June 26 at 9 a.m., Mountain Standard Time. The program is expected to wrap up about 2:30-3 p.m. MST.

Focus for the day will be on spotting and identifying birds of prey, waterfowl, shorebirds, woodpeckers, and songbirds. All levels of birders are welcome. Participants will also spend some time on finding and identifying wildflowers.

Those wishing to take part should come with full gas tanks and prepared dressed for the weather, with water, lunch, binoculars, cameras, spotting scopes, bird identification books if you have them, wildflower guide books, and a good sense of humor. The day will consist of private land road tours and stops, short walks into good observation points, and depending on group preference, perhaps a short hike of less than one-mile round-trip to observe birdlife and wildflowers.

The instructor for the day has degrees in both wildlife and forestry, and over four decades of field experience. All participants must register as space is limited for health and safety.
