Class offers chance to make birch bark lampshade

Create Place is hosting local artist Olivia Gennasi who is teaching a class Saturday on making birch bark lampshades.

The class, which will take place from 9 a.m-2 p.m., will be held at the center, 900 W. Fourth in Newport.

Participants should bring a drill with a bit size of 1/4 or 3/16-inch, needle nose piers and a hatchet. Students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. The cost is $15.
