June 29, 1921 – LOCAL BRIEFS

Sandpoint has had an unusual mosquito epidemic this season but the residents are beginning to notice that the pest has subsided somewhat the past week. Well, judging from the number killed each day, that’s not surprising.

Sandpoint got what could be called the tail end of the frightful windstorm which swept the Inland Empire Friday. Little damage was done here, though it was reported that a number of trees were uprooted. The storm lasted but a short period, passing on the outskirts of the town.

WARM WEATHER MELTS SNOW AT MINE

M.B. Dunkle took a party out to the Auxer gold mine property the first of the week. “With another week of warm weather, the trail will be open,” he said. “Work is progressing rapidly now. The tunnel is still very wet. The appearance of considerable masses of quartz in the country rock lends interest to every foot of progress.”

AIRPLANE DAMAGED WHILE LANDING

Lieut. J.W. Sharpnack and his wife, who arrived in Sandpoint via airplane Thursday, are making a prolonged visit here due to an accident in making a landing in a field out north of the Great Northern depot. Due to rough ground, a blowout occurred in both wheels, causing the plane to tip forward and snap the propeller. They are detained here until a new one can be procured. While in the city they are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Nelson.
