Pepper Rickert places 2nd at 12U PNW Sectional tourney

YAKIMA, Wash. — Pepper Rickert, a 12-year-old from Sandpoint, captured second in a girls singles 12U Level 3 PNW Sectional Tournament held this weekend in Yakima, Washington.
Pepper, the granddaughter of Sandpoint head tennis coach Kent Anderson, fell 6-4, 7-5 to Lydia Xiong in the championship match on Monday. The match lasted over two hours and temperatures reached 112 degrees.
To reach the title match, Pepper defeated No. 1 seed Lauren Wood in the semifinals Sunday. After losing the first set, Pepper fell behind 5-0 in the second. She fought back though and staved off several match points en route to an amazing 3-6, 7-5, 10-2 comeback victory.
