Bonner County Sportsmen’s Foundation announces scholarships

| March 3, 2021 1:00 AM

All students, regardless of age, are encouraged to apply for the Bonner County Sportsmen’s Foundation scholarships.

The foundation is offering two types of scholarships available.

One, a general academic scholarship awarded in honor of Leo Hadley and other outstanding sportsmen and women in Bonner County. County residents who are graduates of, or who are currently enrolled in, a public, private, or home school program, and who have successfully completed a hunter education course are eligible.

The second scholarship is for students interested in vocational pursuits. Vocational scholarships require that the applicant be a Bonner County resident and that their school be physically located in the state of Idaho. Three $500 academic scholarships and two $500 vocational scholarships for use during the 2021-2022 academic year are available.

Those interested may apply by completing an application, which is available at www.Bonnercountysportsmen.org .

An application can also be obtained by writing a letter of request to “BCS Scholarship” P.O. Box 1011, Sandpoint, ID 83864, or by visiting each school’s counselor.

The scholarship is open to adults as well as youth, and the scholarship recipients will be chosen by June 1, 2021. Scholarship applications will also be available at the Bonner County Gun ’n' Horn Show, March 5, 6, and 7, 2021 at the Bonner County Fairgrounds.

The postmark deadline for applications is April 15, 2021.

The academic scholarship was originally started as a memorial to sportsman and community leader Leo Hadley, who passed away in 1998. Leo was well-known for his community service. It has now been expanded to honor and memorialize other outstanding sportspersons.

The vocational scholarship is new this year, having been generously established by Richard and Donna Hutter as part of the Idaho Community Fund in order to support those interested in advancing vocational careers. Contributions to the scholarship funds can be made by sending your donation to the Bonner County Sportsmen’s Foundation at the above address.
