Speaking of family

A new assistant was added to the force of the Jones Stage line when on Saturday a baby boy was born to them. According to reports, he bids fair to be a good baggage smasher. A baby boy arrived at the home of Mr. And Mrs. Angel Naccarato of the Italian Settlement last Thursday. He was the 15th child born to them. Mrs. Naccarato is 42 years of age while her husband is 59.

90 Years Ago — 1931

Good speller

Lester Fulton has again been chosen as the best speller from the Hagman School and will represent the school in the spelling contest at Sandpoint. It will be remembered that Lester took second place at the contest last year.

80 Years Ago — 1941

Town to be surveyed

Carl Wilson, Sandpoint surveyor, has been in town this week surveying the new sidewalk project the village is sponsoring. The entire town is to be surveyed.

70 Years Ago — 1951

Improving Dufort Road

One road project in Bonner County is nearing the contract stage and another may be ready to place under contract early in the summer. Four miles of the farm-to-market road on the east (west?) side of Priest River will be contracted out within 30 days. Estimated cost is $100,000. The long-delayed inclusion of the nine-mile stretch of county road between Dufort and the Laclede Ferry, in the state secondary system as a farm-to-market road, is now also a definite possibility, according to County Commissioner Glenn Reed.

Ranger district news

Don V. Montgomery is being transferred from the Red River District of the Nez Perce National Forest to the Priest Lake Ranger District as district ranger. The Priest Lake District, at Nordman, reports the snow depth in the upper Priest River drainage is about average.

50 Years Ago — 1971

Edgars sell to Pullins

Mr. and Mrs. Glem Edgar have sold their Peninsula home to Mr. and Mrs. John Pullin of California. The Edgars operated a dairy farm on the place from July 1954 to April 1969.

40 Years Ago — 1981

Loggers’ Fun Day set

Ten men’s and four women’s teams are expected to compete in the First Loggers’ Fun Day Saturday at the Nordman Country Store and Bar, starting at 2 p.m. Four-man teams will compete in crosscut, axe throw, chain saw and tug of war.

30 Years Ago — 1991

Appointment upsets councilman

Mayor White Brower’s appointment of Kathleen Carothers to the city council came under fire from one councilman because she hadn’t lived in Priest River long enough, only 1 ½ years. Tim Simpkins cast the only negative vote.

20 Years Ago — 2021

Smith named MVP

The West overpowered the East 116-89 when players from across northern Idaho gathered at Mullan Friday night for the 16th Annual All-Stars basketball game. The scoring leader was Priest River’s Tyler Smith. The 6-2 forward tallied 19 points, earning the Most Valuable Player award and a $100 scholarship.
