March 18, 1971 – DANCE CONTEST FRIDAY
Jim Pucci, owner of the Middle Earth Tavern, announced that his downtown establishment (206 N. First) will sponsor a dance contest for boys and girls. “Smokey Road,” a Seattle group will be the featured entertainment Friday and Saturday. Pucci said dancers will compete for prizes with the competition to get underway Friday at 10 p.m.

This was birthday week in good old Kootenai. These are the celebrations we know about: Ralph Alderman celebrated his birthday March 7 at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Alderman. The second and third grade students of Mrs. Kubecka helped celebrate her birthday March 11, the students receiving treats from her. March 12, Dianna Hamann’s 7th birthday, was feted at the Dennis Hamann home. The Travers twins, Monica and Theresa, went bowling for their 15th birthday, also March 12. The Reynolds triplets, Brian, Kevin and Karen, celebrated their 9th birthday, also on March 12, with homemade ice cream and cake. Mrs. Dennis Bulman, whose ?? birthday was Friday, motored to Spokane with son Tony to spend the weekend visiting her parents. Mrs. Art Rosholt Jr. also marked her ?? birthday Saturday, with the family going bowling. David Hamann had his 11th birthday Monday, March 15, with ice cream and cake served by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dutch Hamann.

March 18, 1921 – STARVING CHINESE
Fresh reports from famine-stricken areas in China state that 1,000,000 have already died from starvation while cholera and scurvy have countless thousands in their grasp. The relief work so far effected in the ill-favored land has resulted in saving about 1,000,000 so far, while millions are selling their children into slavery in order to keep body and soul together. Many parents have even killed their children rather than see them suffer the pangs of certain starvation.

WANT SWIMMING POOL IN NEW SCHOOL
Monday the school board took into deliberation the idea of placing before taxpayers an additional bond issue making a swimming pool a part of the proposed new high school building. Suggestion was made that its upkeep could be provided for with income from making general use of the pool.

Mr. and Mrs. Doc Morris are the parents of a son [Blaine L. Morris], born Monday.
The ladies of St. Agnes Guild will hold an apron and handkerchief sale at Guild hall (Sixth & Oak) Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. Tea will be served.

HIGH ORE VALUE IS STRUCK
Dr. H.C. Myers, who for several years has been prospecting mining claims in back of Maiden Rock, has come upon a six-inch vein of high value silver ore.
