Bewear the Tides of March

This past Monday was the 15th, or “Ides of March.” Most or all of us are familiar with the expression, “Beware the Ides of March,” referring to the Shakespearean warning given to Julius Caesar about his imminent assassination on the 15th of March. I want to play off this saying to suggest a spiritual alternative which can equip us on a daily basis to be prepared for victory over whatever that day may bring to us.

“Bewear” is another way of saying “put on” or “get dressed with.” “Tides” is a reference to daily ocean surges, which can also be used to speak of the surges or movements of events in our lives, which may sometimes seem overwhelming. The enemy of our souls often comes against us in spiritual “tides”. In order to be ready for those “tides”, the Apostle Paul exhorts us in Ephesians 6;10-18 to “Bewear” or “Put on” the full armor of God.

Instead of quoting the whole passage, I encourage you to read it for yourself, and take time to reflect on what each piece of armor has to offer in equipping us for victory over the “tides” of the enemy. The “belt of truth”, the “breastplate of righteousness”, the “gospel of peace” footwear, the “shield of faith”, the “helmet of salvation”, the “sword of the Spirit” (the Word of God), and “praying in the Spirit” are all essential in guaranteeing us victory over the daily attacks of the enemy.

Each day when you arise, “Bewear” the spiritual armor and weapons the Lord makes available to you, stand your ground, and claim the victory that is yours in Christ Jesus! In this way, you will overcome the “tides” of that day, and foil the assassination attempts from the enemy! “Bewear the Tides of March”!
