| March 30, 2021 1:00 AM

Our brother, Bob, left his home on earth on March 20, 2021. He passed away peacefully at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, after a brief but brave battle with brain cancer. He now begins his spiritual life in heaven with his loved ones.

Bob was born January 18, 1955, to Nick and Catherine (Geiger) Matz in Glendive, Montana, where he also attended school. After his senior year, he joined the Navy on July 18, 1973. He was very proud of his service aboard the nuclear-powered submarine, USS Nathanael Greene, as a reactor operator. He likened his passing to “shipping out on my last deployment.” After discharge in 1989, he moved to Sagle, Idaho, to be closer to family in Idaho, Montana, and Washington. He bought a house on Brisboys Road and shared it with his brother Frank. They enjoyed traveling, coin collecting, and model (HO) railroading.

He worked at Oberdorfer, Cygnus, American Dental Hygienics, and Encoder and retired in 2015.

Bob is survived by his brothers, Frank and Ray; sister-in-law, Doris in Sagle; daughter, Nichole; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; aunt, Betty Winhofer in Glendive, Montana; and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Catherine; an infant brother, Gordan; grandparents; and many aunts and uncles.

No words can express the depth of our gratitude to the angels at Schneidmiller Hospice House. Any donations to Hospice of North Idaho in Bob’s name will be greatly appreciated, 2290 W. Prairie Ave. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83815 or www.hospiceofnorthidaho.org

No services are planned at this time. Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with final arrangements. Please visit Bob’s online tribute at www.yatesfuneralhomes.comRobert Paul
