Groups hosting free cornhole clinic on Tuesday

| May 15, 2021 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT - Have you always wanted to play cornhole, but aren't sure how?

The 7B Baggers and Sandbagger Cornhole are hosting a free cornhole clinic for all ages outside at MickDuff's Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St, from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18. Local American Cornhole League pro Ryan Huffey and some of North Idaho's best players will be on hand to go over the basics of the game and cover some in-depth material on cornhole.

Cornhole is a fun game that has gone from backyards to primetime ESPN the last five years. Bags are thrown 27 feet to a sloped board where every bag in the hole counts at 3 points, and bags on the board are worth 1 point. MickDuff’s Beer Hall has been running tournaments and growing the game for more than five years in Sandpoint and the emergence of 7B Baggers has created a non-profit group to continue those efforts. Sandpoint’s cornhole scene is very active with tournaments monthly with skill divisions for all levels, and weekly toss arounds.

The clinic will take place outside, so it’s advised participants dress for the weather. If you have your own bags, you may bring them but don't worry, there will be plenty of bags on hand to practice with. Things that will be covered are rules and objective, pitch mechanics, how to throw a flat bag and advanced shots (cutters, get arounds, bully bag). In addition, also covered will be shot scenarios and shot selection, stats and how they relate to skill level, and bag types & board conditions. There will be live shooting and coaching from ACL Pro and North Idaho's Best Baggers.

Attendees  after for a free switchholio tournament to follow immediately after the clinic. No partner required. Partners are assigned at random through a phone app. For more information, please go to Facebook.com/7BBaggersCornhole or Facebook.com/MickDuffsBeerHall.

If you get hooked on the game or want to test your mettle, there’s a tournament at MickDuff’s Beer Hall Saturday, May 22. Details can be found on Facebook. In addition, there are many more tournaments on the horizon.
