Group does not speak for everyone

| May 30, 2021 1:00 AM

I am writing in response to your article in the Daily Bee "Welcome Sign is Vandalized." "The informal local group", (why weren't they identified in the first sentence?) have no business putting up a sign stating "We the People of Bonner County" when they obviously didn't bother to contact the people of Bonner County.

They didn't contact me, nor, I venture to guess, did they contact the person who took down their sign. This is just another example of woo-woo woke narcissism that is designed to make the little group feel good about themselves.

You don't get to welcome everyone to Bonner County in my name. I know a lot of people who are not welcome here, and I am sure I am not alone in this regard. This doesn't make me a racist, a biased person or threatening in any way. I love the way the Bonner County Human Rights Task Force immediately jumps on that bandwagon, calling it a potential hate crime. This is a difference of opinion, but that's not as exiting as calling it a hate crime.

The city of Sandpoint should not allow special interest groups to unilaterally pretend to represent the people of Bonner County when they clearly do not.
