Judy Grace Lines Farmin, 80
Our mother, Judy Grace Lines Farmin, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.
She was born on October 17, 194,1 in Spokane, Wash., to Bertrum B. and Esther Sophia (Johnson) Lines. She was raised at 623 N. Forest in Sandpoint, Idaho. She attended Lincoln School for her primary grades and then went on to Sandpoint Junior High, and Sandpoint High School, graduating in 1960. She spent her childhood playing with neighborhood children, picking huckleberries in the mountains of North Idaho, and swimming in Lake Pend Oreille. She loved the water and loved to swim. Some of her fondest memories were spent at The Lakeside Motel. Her Aunt Vera and Uncle Walt owned the motel and she spent many days playing there with her cousins Sharon, Bud, and Eila.
Her youth was also spent taking tap dance lessons in grade school and being a member of the Brownies and Girl Scouts, where she obtained a Gold Bar with the help from her mother. She also took baton lessons and clarinet lessons. She was first chair with her clarinet and this took her to a state band competition in Boise.
She attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane and graduated in 1963 as a registered nurse. She maintained lifelong friendships with her fellow nursing classmates. Her working career included Sacred Heart, Bonner General Hospital, Dr. W.C. Hayden, MD., Sandpoint Manor, Schweitzer Basin First Aid Room, and Kootenai Medical Center in the psychiatric ward. She spoke most proudly of her time spent at Schweitzer. She enjoyed all the people she met and being able to be on the mountain and ski. She skied there the first year they opened in 1963 and then took her children there from the time they were little.
She married Theodore Clark Farmin on May 24, 1964. Throughout their marriage they lived primarily on Lakeshore Drive, raising their children. Our mother, along with her family, enjoyed waterskiing, snow skiing, snowmobiling, raising horses, ice fishing, quilting, and bowling. She had an adventurous spirit that took her to New York City and Hawaii with girlfriends. She also went on many flying adventures with our father, including flying to Bethel, Alaska, to see a former nursing classmate. She stayed in close touch with her family in Finland; Carita and Mia. Her Finnish family was very important to her and she and our father traveled there in the 1990s to see them. She spent many hours volunteering at the Bonner County Historical Society and Museum. She was also a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church as well as a member of the Eagles Aerie, No. 589.
She is survived by two daughters, Terri Ann (Mike) Cochran, and Tammy Sue Farmin; a granddaughter, Mallory Ann; and stepson, Tim (Penny) Farmin, and their sons Mitchell (JJ), and Mike (Lindsay). She also is survived by a brother, Bruce (Laura) Lines, and their daughters Cami and Corin; cousins too numerous to name, and many nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Ella Mae McClelland. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and her very special Aunt Vera.
In closing we would like to quote her granddaughter Mallory Ann. “My grandmother was the kind of lady you only had to meet once to never forget, a quick wit, tougher than nails, and always down for a good time if it involved a cold Natty Light. To say I’ll miss her for the rest of my life would be words falling short. Until we meet again. I sure will have a lot to tell you.”
Our mother along with her children would like to thank Valley Vista Care Center for taking such wonderful care of her. Also, thank you to all of you who took the time out of your day to go and see her. It meant a great deal to us.
