Ponderay Rotary announces annual fall raffle

| September 7, 2021 1:00 AM

The Rotary Club of Ponderay Centennial is excited to announce its annual fall raffle with three big prizes this year! Proceeds from this raffle will be used for its 2022 Educational Scholarship and community health and well-being programs.

The grand prize is a flight in a Daher Kodiak plane, manufactured right here in Sandpoint. The winner will be able to fly with three friends or family members on a scenic trip of a lifetime. The flight was donated by Daher.

In addition, Schweitzer Mountain Resort donated a 2021-22 season pass and the Litehouse YMCA bestowed a three-month pass for two. Ponderay Rotary officials said they are very honored to have such long-time donors consistently supporting the club.

One of the club’s most passionate initiatives is supporting education. The 2021-22 Rotary theme is to “Serve to Change Lives.” The club strongly feels its educational scholarship program has positively affected our community and its future leaders.

“We, the Ponderay Rotary club members, work hard to support both high school graduates as well as students of all ages wishing to continue their education. It has been a pleasure watching our scholarship recipients go on to success after graduating from college and trade schools,” said Nanci Jenkins, scholarship chair.

For the last 16 years, the Rotary Club of Ponderay Centennial has been committed to a scholarship program helping local graduates and residents to continue their educations. The club has given out over $143,000 to the community in educational aid over the years; nearly $18,000 went out to 32 different students last year alone.

“We are dedicated to closing the gap between cost and the ability to get an education for local students. We want to ensure greater social mobility for future generations, encourage commitment to their communities, and inspire these students to do the same for others later,” said Kari Saccomanno, 2021-22 president, “This has been even more critical due to the pandemic.”

Established in 2005, this small, energetic group of active leaders continually steps up to take on some of the toughest challenges in the community. Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision and Ponderay Rotary is dedicated to just that. Dependent on the covid situation, the club’s primary fundraisers along with the Fall Raffle include hanging flower baskets sales, Ponderay Days at Schweitzer with the Ducky Derby and its simultaneous scholarship drive, a Paul Harris Fellowship Board, Duck Flocking and Pints for Polio. The last two years have seen the cancellation of the Duck Derby at Schweitzer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so the club’s other fundraisers are crucial to its mission.
