RATHDRUM — Sandpoint girls soccer kept on rolling Wednesday, capturing a 9-1 victory at Lakeland.

The Bulldogs were unable to go through warmups prior to the match and the Hawks took advantage, striking first in the fifth minute.

But eventually Sandpoint found its footing and dominated the rest of the game, scoring nine unanswered goals.

"Our players sorted it out," head coach Conor Baranski said. "There was a lot of quality through balls from all my players."

Baranski believes his team drew at least 20 offside calls.

"Lakeland played an offside trap and that was a problem that most of my players really struggled to deal with," he said.

Senior Piper Frank scored the first goal of the match for the Bulldogs in the 18th minute. She finished with two goals and two assists.

In her second appearance on varsity, sophomore Ava Parke tallied her first career goal in the 36th minute, and a minute later she added another.

"She was on the field for a matter of minutes and she had already scored two goals," Baranski said about Parke. "She has no quit, she's a battler and she's got a nose for goal."

Baranski said senior Averie Brewer shined in the match. She grabbed two goals and an assist.

Sierrah VanGesen scored Sandpoint's eighth goal and assisted on the last. The senior transfer from Port Orchard, Washington, is already committed to play soccer at the University of Idaho next year.

Baranski was really impressed with her play Wednesday.

"I just thought she was incredibly unselfish," he said. "That level of selflessness speaks a lot to me about her character. She could have easily scored five goals, but she was looking to pass and get other players involved."

Junior Kimbo Yarnell and senior Kylie Williams netted the other goals for the Bulldogs, who racked up 33 shots. Junior goalkeeper Kameryn Nadeja made one save.

Sandpoint (5-0, 4-0 Inland Empire League) is scheduled to return home to host Lake City at 4:30 p.m. Friday, but Baranski said the two schools are working to reschedule that game to a later date. If that game is postponed, the Bulldogs would head to Post Falls at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
