Reed earns Eagle Scout honors

| September 18, 2021 1:00 AM

Ethan Reed received his Eagle Award at Camp Stidwell as his proud mother looked on and family members gathered for his big day. Phil Voelz, Scoutmaster of Troop 111 presented Ethan his blue Eagle scarf recently at Camp Stidwell. Ethan’s project was complete restoration of 16 benches at the Ouimet Meadow.

"It was a project that had been passed by several times due to various complications, too long to go into," said Kiwanis member Dick Vail. "However, Ethan said he could tackle it and indeed he did."

Reed is another scout who received a scholarship from the Sandpoint Kiwanis Club to attend the National Youth Leadership Training class. Every scout that has received this scholarship by the Kiwanis Club — eight currently — has earned their Eagle Award. Only 4% of all scouts climb Eagle Mountain.

Reed enlisted in the Coast Guard and is scheduled to graduate this weekend.
