97% of scientists say climate change is real

| September 28, 2021 1:00 AM

In his letter of August 31, 2021, Jeremy Conlin made several misleading claims regarding climate change.

Claim: “No linkage between temperature and CO2.”

Fact: There is a direct correspondence between atmospheric CO2 and temperature during the glacial cycles of the past several hundred thousand years. (Search for “Temperature Change and Carbon Dioxide Change NOAA.”)

Claim: “Much Warmer 2.000 years ago.”

Fact: Search for “IPCC climate report: Earth is warmer than it’s been in 125,000 years.”

Claim: Sea level rise is “...mostly a continuation of the natural rise that has been measured since the mid-1800s.”

Fact: “Since the 1950s, every subsequent decade has experienced increased rates of sea-level rise. Model experiments show that twentieth century sea-level rise cannot be explained by natural processes alone. Anthropogenic forcing by greenhouse gasses has become a dominant cause for recent sea-level change.“ (Search for “Sea Level Rise ScienceDirect”)

Claim: “The 97% consensus [that global warming is human caused] represents a statement of faith..

Fact: “What this latest study shows, definitively and authoritatively, is that the scientific consensus behind human-caused climate change is overwhelming,...” (Search for “Consensus Affirmed: Virtually All Climate Scientists Agree Warming Is Manmade.”)

Claim: ”...in the 1930s, U.S. heatwaves were far more severe than current temps.”

Fact: The average temperature during this summer for the contiguous U.S. was hotter than in the 1930s. (Search for “2021 Hotter Than ‘Dust Bowl’ Of The 1930s, NOAA Says”)

Bonus fact: The last seven years rank as the top seven hottest years globally on record.
