Coeur d'Alene downs Sandpoint 2-0

COEUR d'ALENE — Bulldog boys soccer put forth a great effort on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough to topple Coeur d'Alene.

Sandpoint fell 2-0 in the nonleague match. They lost to the Vikings by the same scoreline on Sept. 2 at War Memorial Field.

Despite the defeat, head coach Tanner French was impressed by his team's play.

"I thought that the boys had an extremely strong first half," he said. "It was the best we've played all year and I thought we would find the back of the net through various chances that we were creating, but it just didn't happen."

Coeur d'Alene scored a goal in the first and second half. French said his squad just lacked that finishing touch.

The Bulldogs outshot the Vikings 8-6 and Roman Jiles made three saves in net.

French said the team learned a lot from this match.

"I'm proud of the guys," he said. "They worked hard, especially Tyler Bangle, Stirling Roget and Evan Dickinson on the backline. Roman came up big with a save at the end."

The Bulldogs (6-4, 5-2 IEL) travel to Lakeland at 4:30 p.m. Thursday to wrap up regular season play.
