T-Wolves softball sweeps Bulldogs

COEUR d’ALENE — Jaidyn Inman started Game 1 of Sandpoint’s doubleheader against Lake City with a solo homerun. Aspen Schwenk hit a two-run shot in the third inning.
The Timberwolves still managed to get the 20-3 and 10-0 sweep of the Bulldogs.
Layla Gugino hit a solo homer in the second for Lake City to snap a 1-all tie. Hanah Stoddard added a solo shot in the second.
Sandpoint’s head softball coach, Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams, was pleased with the Bulldogs effort at the plate during Game 1.
“We hit really well,” Hawkins-Williams said. “Those two (Schwenk and Inman) are very similar. “If they get a hold of it, it has a chance of going over.”
Lake City’s Hope Bodak went 4 for 4 with a homer, three doubles, seven runs batted in and four runs scored in the opener for the Timberwolves.
Defensive miscues are what prevented Sandpoint from getting off the ground, according to Hawkins-Williams.
“We were not very sharp defensively,” Hawkins-Williams said. “Our errors cascaded into a lot of runs.”
In the second game, Kivia Barlow made her season debut on the mound for the Bulldogs.
“She took a bit more of a conservative approach to the mound,” Hawkins-Williams said. “But she was able to throw a lot of quality pitches.”
Lake City’s Layla Gugino and Brooklyn Wullenwaber combined for a five-inning two-hitter for the T-Wolves.
Sandpoint fell to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in Inland Empire League play. The Bulldogs will next play Bonners Ferry at 3 p.m. on Thursday in its home opener at Memorial Field.
