POST FALLS — The Sandpoint softball team wasn’t feeling its best physically following its game against Bonners Ferry on Tuesday.

The physical effects it felt from playing in freezing temperatures were alive and well in its doubleheader loss to Post Falls.

The Trojans swept the Bulldogs 12-2, 18-1.

“Today was an emotional and frustrating day,” Sandpoint softball coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams said. “Little injuries really harmed us emotionally today.”

The Trojans hit eight home runs throughout the doubleheader with five in game one and three in game two.

Despite Post Falls’ hitting line, Hawkins-Williams was still pleased with the way Sandpoint’s defense performed throughout the contest.

“Our defense played really well,” Hawkins-Williams said. “We’re developing a new middle infield and our outfield is playing outstanding.”

Sandpoint notched seven hits in the first game but cooled down significantly in game two.

“We’re just not hitting like we were at the beginning of the season,” Hawkins-Williams said. “We just need to continue to improve on the emotional and mental side of the game.”

Hawkins-Williams was also impressed with Ashlyn Darling’s efforts on the mound.

She gave up six runs on four hits and struck out one.

“(Ashlyn) Darling pitched really well once she settled in,” Hawkins-Williams said. “It was great to see her have success. She also caught really well in the second game.”

The Bulldogs fall to 1-8 on the season and will next travel to West Valley on Wednesday, April 20.
